Run Rabbit Run Review

I found this book by happenstance in my fever dream of going crazy exploring threads and discovering the book community there was far better and more fun than anywhere else.

I was intrigued not because of the plot but due to the absolute shallow reason that I liked the art for the book cover. It was simple but captivating for me and considering I had finished almost all of my highlander historical romance ARCs I was free to read a book that was not necessarily up my alley or is this just me being delusional and in denial, considering the manga and manhwa’s I read are extremely dark romance.

Okay okay enough chit chat let’s get to the review.

First thing’s first, the experience of reading this e-ARC was awesome! When I received the book my first thought was wow this book is beautiful from the cover art to the art that was in the book and also the font used to note the chapters. Everything was so pretty and was consistent with the themes written in the book.

If this is the ARC, I am confident the actual published book will be even better and that the readers will enjoy not only the plot but also the aesthetics of the book.

Reading “Run Rabbit Run” I was skeptical about it at first, my previous forays into BDSM erotica wasn’t the best, but the author proved me wrong because from the moment I read the first few pages I was hooked.

Had I not read this book in the middle of the night and I had work the next day, I would’ve finished the book in one sitting.

Juniper’s writing was easy to read and to follow so there were no parts where I felt confused except maybe when the spicy scenes came up but that is completely on me and not the author.

Due to my lack of experience, I really had to amp up my imagination to imagine which limb went where and how and my conclusion was that the human body is amazing because who knew one could be that flexible because I know I am not unfortunately.

The whole time I was reading I was like “OMG that can happen???????” or “OMG you can do that??”.

The writing is clear enough that you know which character was speaking, they all had their own individual voices which is great to read.

Plot and spice level wise I would say it’s aight.

The reason I say this is not that the book doesn’t have triggering material or that it doesn’t have enough dark romance. No, it has all of that and more. It’s just that after reading this book I have realized how high my tolerance for dark romance has become due to reading manga and manhwa especially ones with the yandere trope.

Not only did I learn something new from the book but I also learned something new about myself because WHY IS MY TOLERANCE THIS HIGH NOW??? THIS IS NOT NORMAL. I DIDN’T EVEN REALIZE YANDERE WAS MY FAV TROPE APPARENTLY????

Bunny was KIDNAPPED and forced into submission in this book and my thoughts were oh cool nothing I haven’t read before. NOTHING I HAVEN’T READ BEFORE???!!!

I thought I would be triggered reading “Run Rabbit Run” because my favorite genres are historical romance which is basically Cinderella with smut. I wasn’t triggered at all, it was WORSE I was completely unfazed.

I think once you have read “Killing Stalking” and manga from Umekoppe whose specialization is the yandere trope it really does something to you.

I am desensitized.

Another aspect of the book that I enjoyed was how the author puts in clues for the readers to figure out what is going on with Bunny’s predicament. I hate when authors out of nowhere introduce something that explains the core mystery of the plot without leaving clues because then it doesn’t make sense and would leave the readers with whiplash.

So, I really appreciate how Juniper leaves clues, just enough for you to be curious on how it could relate to the bigger picture without revealing anything of significance until it’s time.

Review Breakdown

  • Character: 7/10

Demetrius and Bunny as characters fit well for the theme and genre of the book they are in but they don’t stand out for me. Their characterisations are too stereotypical especially if you read a lot of manhwa like I do where every other male lead is handsome, rich, possessive and brooding (kindness is optional) like Demetrius and the female lead are all feisty and strong.

  • Atmosphere: 8/10

Not much if any complaints here. I was really into the book, I can imagine most of the stuff.

  • Writing: 9/10

The writing is where Run Rabbit Run shines for me. The writing is really good as the dialogues wasn’t cringe and nothing felt too rushed or felt like it was dragging on forever.

  • Plot: 8/10

Plot was solid for me and there were no loose ends. Makes me want to read more.

  • Intrigue: 9/10

I couldn’t put down the book. Enough said.

  • Logic: 7/10

There were some aspects in the plot that I had some questions over but it’s more of a logistical issue but I can’t say much for fear of spoilers.

  • Enjoyment: 9/10

The book is a great and fast read.

In conclusion, I highly recommend this book if you are into dark romance and BDSM and I mean I enjoyed this book so much I genuinely cannot wait to read the prequel for our main characters.

Quotes

You know you did wrong. Running from me will never work.

I don’t want to fight you today, Bunny. Just do as you’re told. I’ll count to ten and you’d better be in that trunk before I’m done.

I’m not going to hurt you. Why would I do that? You’re mine, and I’m not the type to destroy my toys.
