Book Review: The Lady Most Likely

The Lady Most Likely Review
I love historical romance. A lot.
The bar I have when reading historical romance is literally in hell, thus I don’t need much to be entertained by it but sometimes, some historical romance I just CANNOT abide by.
The Lady Most Likely is one such book.
The book is split into three stories written by three different authors and I had high hopes but the stories are lackluster at best and plain boring and ugh at worst.
The first story that we are given is between Gwendolyn and Who-Knows-What’s-His-Name, let’s name him Henry; this pacing for this story in my opinion is too fast. All we see is just Henry and Gwendolyn talking for a short while and suddenly they’re in love and having sex all over the place.
Like girl, I go weak in the knees too for hot men but get a grip.
The second story is between Captain Oakes and Kate and this has my most hated trope. The miscommunication trope. The moment any book has this trope, it’s an IMMEDIATE dislike from me.
I genuinely feel that any author who uses this trope as the main plot point is just lazy and uncreative. There are so many things you can do to facilitate drama and push the plot forward but you choose not only the easiest but also the laziest trope.
The sex scene wasn’t even good to be the salve to my wounds from reading these two stories.
The third and last story was the most infuriating because it was so stupid. It is between Hugh and Georgina. The plot is atrocious and the dialogue is just as bad; the banter that we have to suffer through between Hugh and Georgina is just absolutely cringe.
Don’t get me started with the sex scene.
I read historical romance for the sex and the fantasy of being swept away by a dashing caucasian man with preferably green, hazel or dark blue eyes. So, just imagine the frustration I feel when reading a historical romance that has a bad plot, horrible dialogue and worst of all, LAME SEX SCENES.
If I wanted a cringe fest I would watch a Lifetime movie.
Coming back to the third story, it has more of the miscommunication trope but most of all the character that annoyed me here was Georgina. Girl, I understand you’re a widow and you’re going through things but you like Gwendolyn need to get a grip.
Georgina says that Hugh is not man enough for her and she does not want him that way but when he stops being flirtatious with her and treats her how she says she wants their relationship to be she gets mad.
WHAT DO YOU WANT?
Do you want to stay friends? Do you want a relationship? Do you need time?
You need to communicate all of this to Hugh. He is a man not a mind reader.
Overall, as you can see, I did not enjoy this book at all. It was a fast read though, I will give it that. Was it a good read? It is highly debatable.
