Next Door Review

The book reads like it’s a first draft by a first time author as I honestly feel that it needed more edits and rewriting. It was not a good read whatsoever and the trope that the author used, which was the twin trope; one twin being proper and follows the rules and the other twin being the exact opposite, is overused and cliché.

Not only does the author use the old opposite twins trope, the writing and plot of the book was (I am sorry to say) horrendous! This book reads like a really bad fan fiction because everything came too easy for Chloe especially in her career. Chloe is an intern at the start of the book as she is in a program of some sort with the FBI but then she decides to pursue a case that has ties to Danielle. Then, it was Chloe who finds a break in the case and manages to solve it.

How does she do it? It beats me as it was not explained well in the book. Chloe of course gets a commendation by the head of the FBI due to her “intelligence”. I have read this book from start to finish and I have yet to see Chloe showing this so-called “intelligence” in solving a crime.

The characters in the book were extremely bland and boring and very two dimensional and having characters who are boring makes the already nonsensical plot even worse.

Overall, I don’t recommend this book because it was just bad and a waste of your time.

Rating: 2/5

FBI Evidence Response Team intern Chloe Fine, 27, finds herself forced to confront her own dark past when her troubled twin sister needs her help—and when a body turns up dead in her small, suburban town.

Chloe feels life is finally perfect as she moves back into her home town, and into a new house with her fiancé. Her career with the FBI looks promising, and her wedding is on the horizon.

But, she learns, all is not as it seems in suburbia. Chloe begins to see the underside—the gossip, the secrets, the lies—and she finds herself haunted by her own demons: her mother’s mysterious death when she was 10, and her father’s imprisonment.

And when a fresh body is found, Chloe soon realizes that her past, and this small town, might hold the key to solving both.

An emotionally wrought psychological suspense with layered characters, small-town ambiance and heart-pounding suspense, NEXT DOOR is book #1 in a riveting new series that will leave you turning pages late into the night.
